What Career Services Does for You
With individualized support and attention to all aspects of your career transition, we are committed to your success from day one.
Your program experience includes:
Individualized support
No two students are the same, and each person enters the program with valuable experiences and a unique background.
You'll work one on one with career services to determine the best way to position yourself in the industry through authentic + strategic rebranding.
Career curriculum
You'll begin with career services at the start of the program to hone-in your professional development. Career curriculum is robust, and we'll challenge you to grow professionally while learning to become a software developer. Additionally, you'll craft tailored technical resumes and your online presence. Our goal is to help you build your tech community and prepare you to secure a role as soon as possible.
Mock interviews
Each graduate of the program will be given the opportunity to practice interviewing with career services and industry experts from local tech companies. While your instructors will teach you to whiteboard and crack code challenges, we'll also prepare you to start feeling comfortable with the interview process.
Industry experts
We bring in phenomenal guest speakers who share their experiences and industry tips! Topics range from: preparing for an interview, the importance of body language, valuing your soft skills, utilizing recruiters, starting a new job successfully, and much more.
Ongoing support
Once you graduate the program, career services will be there for you until you land your first tech role and after. We'll help you nail cover letters and provide industry insight for positions you are applying and interviewing for via our vast network.
Demo days
In the final project week students complete an intensive team sprint, building a FullStack app from scratch to showcase their skills and abilities. Software Developers, hiring managers and local recruiters utilize the opportunity to meet graduates and view their work, joining us for this exciting day of professional presentation.
Campus community
From last Friday social hours to hosting numerous meetups, workshops and hackathons on campus, there are ample opportunities to interact with industry professionals and grow your network. We are a welcoming and inclusive community of students, alumni, and industry professionals that return regularly.
Residency
At Alchemy we're focused on training you to enter your career as a mid-level software developer well beyond the need for an internship. We also hire many of our grads as software developers in our tech consultancy, AppLab, where they gain real world experience building apps for Portland startups and entrepreneurs in a residency environment.

What our grads are saying
"Career services was indispensable after my graduation. Job hunting is never fun no matter what area of work you are in, but with Shannon, I knew I was in good hands. The advice and tips that were given to me helped me get the interviews and meet the people that I did. Shannon has an insight of the industry that is unparalleled with anyone else.
I distinctly remember going to a resume critique workshop, and I had brought my resume that Shannon recently coached me on, and the recruiter told me that my resume was one of the best resumes he has seen in a while, and that if he was a hiring manager, he would call me in a heartbeat. Even after you finish the program, Shannon is there with you helping you on your cover letter, interview questions, resume, and much more. Everything she tells and advises you to do, DO IT!"

"Our Career Services Director was a huge asset in my job search. She provided excellent feedback on my resume and website, sent me job postings that she felt fit both my skill AND personality, and was 100% committed to helping me get a job that wouldn’t just pay the bills, but would make me happy.
I call her my personal cheerleader because she went above and beyond: she would give me pep talks before interviews, make sure I was actually interested in the jobs I was applying to, and used her vast professional network to introduce me to potential employers."

“On the career and networking side of things, Shannon has been an amazing addition to ACL--she started when my cohort began last year--and she has also been instrumental in the success of grads getting hired at awesome companies around PDX, time and time again.”
