Celebrating Pride Month @ Alchemy
Honoring each and every member of our community for who they are
Honoring each and every member of our community for who they are
It’s that time of the year across the nation, and very boldly in Portland, where Pride Month is celebrated. This month also strongly resonates with what we do at Alchemy, as we want everyone to be themselves and honor who they are with acceptance. A driver of everything we do here at Alchemy is to increase diversity in tech, and to create a welcoming space for people regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or age. We want everyone to feel supported while they are learning an incredible set of skills to become software developers. Pride Month aligns with our values, recognizing that everyone should be loved and valued for who they are, who they choose, and what they want.
Throughout their time with us, we tell our students to own who they are, embrace the journey they took to get here, and work tenaciously to get the most out of our program. Our training is hard, but the challenge is rewarded with a great career if the work is put in. We coach them to look to work at companies where they can be embraced for who they are. Wherever they land, we also ask that they continue to work to make their environment a safe place to be genuine and authentic.
This year, we offered our students the opportunity to create an image for our front window. Megan Marshall, a talented woman about to finish our program, presented us with this incredible image that encompasses the pride and love we have for our community. Even though she is busy completing the program, she felt it was important and worthwhile to show her support and love. When asked what Pride Month means, Megan said, “Pride is both a celebration and a reminder to me to continue to learn how to be a better ally.”

You can see the full image at the entrance to our building on 10th, across from Powell’s, and we hope you get the opportunity to come check it out. In the meantime, get out there and honor all that is you. Celebrate everything that makes you, you, 365 days a year.
