Alchemy Graduates 10 More Diverse & Talented FullStack JavaScript Software Developers!

Another cohort graduates! Last week, 10 incredible students finished our program after nearly 6 months of intense training. With more than 800 hours of learning how to harness FullStack JavaScript capabilities using React and Redux on the Front End with ExpressJS and MongoDB on the Back End (plus a dose of Firebase for realtime communication), these graduates are ready to contribute to Portland’s tech companies.

They are bright, intelligent, and hard working. We already miss them in our space, but can’t wait to see what they do in their careers and the PDX tech community. We are also committed to bringing diverse communities into tech and this cohort includes women, LatinX, and LBGTQ+ graduates.

Our emphasis on process, tested-development and immersive lab sessions allow our grads to understand how their coding works and why it does what it does. We stay on top of the most used technologies and our engineering education is delivered in-person by experienced senior software developers. Here is an overview of the program.

We serve Portland with trained graduates who are ready to be real contributors that help evolve the local economy and community through the companies for which they work.

Below you will find the Github and deployed-site links for their final projects - conceived, developed and delivered in just one week. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Comic Swap is a great example of taking an existing, extensive, (and hard-to-navigate) content API, and building a social network or commerce model around it. Bringing people together over a common interest is typically a sure win.
  • Real time applications open the door to more engaging user experiences. Google's Firebase is still the go-to realtime serverless solution, used in
  • Snakes and Squirrels to run a live card game, integrated into a traditional React/Redux MERN stack app.
  • Cute animals rule the internet, and star in ReHome, an app for people who need to find a new home for their furry friend. The app shows a great deal of empathy for the those in this situation, offering options (children, activity levels, size) for making sure their loved pet ends up in the right home.

Snakes & Squirrels is a quick bluffing game where players try to find more squirrels than their opponents, while avoiding those sneaky snakes. It's easy to learn, but tons of potential for mind games and deception. Snakes & Squirrels was built using Google's Firebase for the realtime database, React and Redux for the front end, and Express and MongoDB for the back end.
