We’re honored to announce a new scholarship opportunity for Black and Indigenous women ready to train for a career in the tech industry. This scholarship is available now, and supports students accepted to any cohort of Alchemy Code Lab’s Program in Professional Software Development.
Developed in partnership with PDXWIT (Portland Women in Technology), the scholarship is the latest element of our Diversity in Tech commitment that is central to our mission. Last February, we approached PDXWIT to collaborate with us in boosting enrollment for Black and Indigenous women. The scholarship is the next step in our shared mission of creating better representation at all levels of the tech industry.
Since our inception, Alchemy has supported diversity in tech, having awarded over $500,000 in scholarships for women, people of color. LBGTQ+, and veterans. Last year, we reached an all time high number of Women in the Program at 44% and LatinX at 11%, but Black and Indigenous individuals are still statistically underrepresented at only 1% of students.
Since Alchemy’s program is uniquely focused on launching grads directly into software developer roles, this scholarship empowers Black and Indigenous women to enter the industry at a higher level. We believe it’s time to move beyond token internships to showcase amazing candidates that drive real workplace representation.
And now more than ever, we need to believe in the excellence of Black and Indigenous women and their ability to excel in technical roles. We look forward to working with new students and our employers to tangibly promote diversity in tech.
Interested candidates can begin by applying to our program, or setting up an info session to learn more about starting a software development career in tech.
